Over thousands of young migrant children and youth make Victoria their new home very year. In addition to the usual challenges that every school-aged child faces, they often experience unique set of challenges exacerbated by difficulties in bridging education and language gaps, cultural shock, discrimination and bullying for being different and stereotyping etc, all at the same time when they are trying to navigate their way into adulthood!
Our programs are designed to help them and their families with their homework from schools to smooth the transition to their school lives in Australia and to develop a sense of belonging in the new community and connectedness.
Our works have impacted on over 120 refugee and migrant kids, youth and their families, our goal is to reach and positively impact more migrant kids and youth through our range of programs, working closely with the parents, schools, and other community groups.
In 2018, we sponsored Blackburn English Language School's eye screening program for their students. Our Homework Group sessions focuses on helping children with their homework but also focuses on enhancing their general well-being by providing support and improve community connectedness of children, youth and their families. In 2019, we have held programs like kids run a stall at Camberwell Sunday Market and Snow Fun day and have began Food Art classes that children really enjoy. In addition, in August 2019, we sponsored Hartwell Arts Show at Hartwell Primary School.
We would like to thank Rotary Balwyn, Centre of Multicutlural Youth Inner Eastern Local Learning & Employment Network and our volunteers and schools that we have worked with for their ongoing support and referral.
Homework Study Group
The Homework Study group focuses on refugee and migrant kids education and aimed at helping the kids and their families to transition into school life in Australia. We have designed the teaching programs to focus on education, creating confidence, cultural immersion, community belonging and children’s health and well-being.
At the moment, the program is open to all school-aged children. If they are under school-age, parents must accompany them throughout the sessions.
